We will know all the steps for its manufacture, from the making of the mold, to the injection of liquid rubber. Starting with the aluminum mold design. Using the 3D SolidWorks program, the designer models the part that will be used as the base of the keychain. In this example, the keyring is a button. Dimensions, shape, curves, etc... in short, all the details of the piece are checked. From there, the aluminum mold is modeled. The mold is the negative of the part, that is, it is where the holes are located with the shape through which the rubber will be injected, forming the expected design. With the modeling ready, the final file is sent to the CNC milling machine, where the equipment will follow the instructions for making the mold. A little oil is spread along the cutter to prevent breakage of the tip. The finished mold is placed on the plotter, where liquid PVC rubber is dispensed. Following the defined schedule, the color of each nozzle is injected at the exact point of the design. The process is the same as that used in inkjet printers that we have at home to print on paper. In this process, we can see the layers of each color on the rubberized keychain. After this first part, the mold is placed in the oven for drying. After drying, the piece is left for a few seconds to cool down. Nearing the end, the last color is poured. It represents the base of the keychain. You can see that there are two nozzles injecting the color at once, which speeds up the process. Once again, the keyrings go through the kiln for a final drying.
