Raqs-e-Zawal is a thesis documentary that explores the gradual disappearance of classical dance traditions in Pakistan. Once deeply rooted in the cultural and artistic identity of the region, classical dance has faced social, political, and moral resistance over decades, leading to its marginalization and near erasure from public spaces. Through interviews, visuals, and historical context, this documentary examines the factors behind this decline and reflects on what is lost when an art form fades away. This film was created as an academic thesis project. All aspects of the documentary — including research, direction, cinematography, interviews, scripting, and editing — were independently handled by the filmmaker. This work aims to document, question, and preserve conversations around classical dance as a vital part of Pakistan’s cultural heritage. Thank you for watching.
