Salvatore Brizzi - La via del non attaccamento

http://www.nonsoloanima.tv - Conference by Salvatore Brizzi. Topics include: Awakening is a state in which we no longer perceive obstacles. Everything flows like a river. When we resist (because we feel the need to defend what we've identified with or attached to), we're like a large stone blocking the flow of the river, and this causes pain. We're all very "good" at appreciating the Buddhist idea of flowing with everything and spreading universal love... yet, all it takes is for someone to "steal" our parking space to make us instantly forget all the Buddha's teachings... Why does attachment exist? What purpose does it serve? Why is the process of identification necessary? The first great identification is with our bodies (physical, mental, emotional). Identifying with matter is necessary for the soul to build an "I." Young souls are in this stage of evolution, and it's good for them to increasingly identify with matter, like children who need to cling to their toys and things, to build a self... the same self that will allow them to move beyond as adults. Souls who have already had this experience, however, are finding a way to free themselves from attachment, and for them, the Buddha's path proves appropriate. We must be careful not to confuse positive judgments (which are always judgments) with an open heart. Non-attachment is about an open heart, not judgments. Buddhism teaches us that everything is impermanent, but because people ignore this truth, they create attachments. Is experiencing one's pain an attachment or a way of processing? It's okay to express pain, because our emotional body is processing it and needs to release it, but when we do so, we must be present. Observing our thoughts requires effort... because we generally become our thoughts: our ego identifies with our thoughts... It takes an effort to break free from this habit and automatism. With "self-remembering," we can see our mind from the outside... we can see our thoughts passing by and not identify with them. A thought truly originating from us is an intuitive thought; everything else is not ours... it's just stuff that passes through our mental body... We are not our bodies, but we are the inhabitants of our bodies (physical, emotional, mental...). With Awakening, consciousness and mind become distinct: consciousness sees the mind from the outside. A true human being is able to think when they want, and when they want not to think. It's essentially about self-observation and being present. Detached observation of thoughts deprives them of their emotional charge. Every time we think about something, we lose energy. True solitude isn't feeling alone, but knowing that there's only you and the world within you. This puts an end to all fear. ** Netiquette ** We encourage constructive comments, open to dialogue, that open and allow for debate. Please avoid swearing, insults, comments about race or religion, sarcastic or aggressive behavior of any kind, and absolutist statements (no one has an absolute truth; instead, say "In my opinion").
