ESCAPE FROM UNDERNEATH AN ATTACKER! Life saving concept
The natural instinct to escape the mount position in a self-defense scenario is to push the attacker and buck with the hips. This may be all you need against a smaller assailant. However, against a bigger adversary this strategy may not be enough and in fact can get you exhausted and still at the mercy of the bad guy on top. In this video, we conducted an experiment with a couple of female volunteers from a self-defense class who never did Jiu-Jitsu before. Noelle Moreno (130 lbs) got on top of them and we asked the volunteers to escape the mount. As expected, they did very good job at pushing and fighting, but without a clear strategy in their movements they couldn't get out. Then, the volunteers got on top of Noelle and we asked them to hold her as tight as they could. With a simple move called the Upa escape Noelle was able to escape without too much effort. How did she do it? The concept is very simple. Instead of pushing randomly, Noelle deliberately trapped and arm and a leg of the volunteer on top. With these traps in place, Noelle executed a big bridge towards the trapped side. Without a base to post out, the volunteers were easily rolled out and Noelle got on top. Once you understand this basic concept you can apply it to different scenarios of the mount position to escape. Wether the guy on top is grabbing your neck, pulling your hair or punching, you can apply different variations of the same concept to get out: trap their limbs and bridge towards that side. Besides this concept, there are more details that will make the technique work even better and more efficient. To reach a good level of proficiency it's important to sign up to a reputable Jiu-Jitsu Academy and start learning Jiu-Jitsu.
