St Huberts - The Little Church in the Fields

The Little Church in the Fields, St Hubert’s Church at Idsworth near Chalton, anecdotally passengers on the London to Portsmouth railway line often wonder about this little church sitting alone in a field. The Church is 11th Century and was originally dedicated to St Peter, Earl Godwin the father of King Harold is believed to have had the chapel built around 1030AD. The village in which the Church sat was deserted sometime around the end of 14th Century. The church contains medieval wall art, which having been covered up during the reformation was not revealed until 1864.
