Can We Save This House?

What would you do if you stumbled across one of the oldest homes in the Mississippi Valley... just months after a devastating fire nearly destroyed it? That's exactly what happened to us. We are Laine and Kevin Berry, and for more than twenty years we've dedicated our lives to restoring and preserving historic buildings. We've saved Victorian cottages, forgotten farmhouses, and architectural treasures across the South. But nothing prepared us for Hope Farm. When we first saw this extraordinary property in Natchez, Mississippi, it was a burned-out shell. Fire, smoke, and water damage had left behind a scene that many people considered hopeless. Portions of the structure were gone. Historic materials had been damaged or destroyed. The amount of work ahead seemed almost unimaginable. Most people would have walked away. Instead, we fell in love. Built in the 1770s, Hope Farm has stood for nearly 250 years. It has witnessed the French, Spanish, British, and American eras of Natchez history. It survived wars, economic depressions, floods, and generations of change. We believed it deserved one more chance. So we bought it. This video marks the beginning of an incredible journey as we undertake the restoration of one of the most historically significant homes in Natchez. Along the way, we'll uncover hidden architectural details, preserve original craftsmanship, solve seemingly impossible restoration challenges, and share the triumphs, setbacks, discoveries, and surprises that come with saving a house this old. This isn't just a renovation project. It's a race against time to save an irreplaceable piece of American history. We're so glad you're here for the beginning.
