Faience at Amarna: Old and new research into its brilliant manufacture and use
This Research Lecture explores one of the EES-affiliated-projects by a member of EES staff. Browse upcoming EES Research Lectures and other events via our website: https://www.ees.ac.uk/whats-on/events... This talk will look into some of the evidence for the production and use of tjehenet (Egyptian faience, lit. ‘brilliant’ or ‘dazzling’) at the Middle Egyptian site of Amarna. Multiple faience workshops have been excavated at Amarna over the past 130 years. These workshops along with some of their outputs will be discussed in tandem with some preliminary results from Boonstra’s current work on the Amarna Great Aten Temple Faience Inlays (AGATFI) project. Please help us to support more research projects in Egypt by making a donation to our Research Fund: https://www.ees.ac.uk/support-us/dona... Dr Stephanie Boonstra is the Collections Manager at the Egypt Exploration Society and the Managing Editor of the Society’s Journal of Egyptian Archaeology. Her research focusses on the archives of the EES and on evidence for production in ancient Egypt. She completed her PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2019 on scarab amulet production in the early 18th Dynasty Egypt and is a current member of the Amarna Project excavations researching the Great Aten Temple faience inlays.
