L’Art nouveau en France. Paris et Nancy

Monday, February 24, 2020 - 6:30 p.m. To understand the ferment that stirred the world of architectural creation at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Europe, this exceptional program of five lectures, bringing together the exhibition curators and international specialists in Art Nouveau, will provide an overview of this movement, essential to the emergence of 20th-century modernity. The figure of Otto Wagner will be discussed; his achievements, writings, and teaching allowed him to exert an international influence and established him as one of the pioneers of modernity. The lecture series will compare Wagner's work with the achievements of some of his contemporary avant-garde contemporaries and will highlight the importance of the networks of exchange and circuits of influence around 1900 in Europe. With Hervé Doucet, exhibition curator and lecturer in art history, University of Strasbourg.
