Join Mark Cleghorn for a conversation with amazing Dutch photographer Janko Bosch about his work. Janko is known for his landscape work of "the lonely land" but is discussing his people photography today. About Janko Bosch's Photography Day Job: Head of Design for Media House, an organization with different news outlets (newspapers, websites, radio stations) in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland. He works on designing the platforms all the titles are on and new features like video. He dedicates one day a week and weekends to photography. The Dressed Project: Janko's fashion work is entirely personal. The Dressed project was inspired by combining fetish clothing with regular clothing to create a fashion feel. He has continued working in a similar manner and recently finished the Dressed project and published a small book.678 Lighting and Technical Details: In the studio, Janko works with flash only. He prefers soft lighting and lots of gray in his black and white work, with a lot of tonality in the pictures. He primarily uses flashes for fill, as it gives him more control, especially in a clamshell setup. He tries not to create too harsh a shadow so he can pull details in post-production. He shoots with a Leica SL camera, preferring fixed lenses, mainly his 75mm and 50mm. He generally shoots starting from f/4 and up, but for portraits, he might go lower, around f/3 or f/3.2. Studio Work: Janko plans all his studio work, including laying out things and styling, so it is well-prepared before he enters the studio. He generally only works in the studio with models. He builds a connection with the model before the shoot begins. Janko Bosch's Other Projects ZAPOTRONIC: Janko's blog or online magazine where he showcases photo projects from other photographers worldwide. The projects can be from both big and small names.1819 Dutch Coastline: Janko has a personal project to photograph the entire Dutch coast. He finds the coastal area to be a place of both peace and environmental tension due to the lot of nature and industry. He considers it a very inspiring and special sliver of land.
