We are exactly two weeks away from the start of Keeneland September – “The World’s Yearling Sale” – one of the most anticipated events in the Thoroughbred industry. For generations, Claiborne Farm has played an important role in shaping the sport’s history, and this video takes a closer look at that legacy in the context of Keeneland September. Over nearly two weeks, more than 4,500 yearlings will pass through the Keeneland sales ring, as buyers from around the world gather in search of racing’s next champions. The sale is not only a marketplace, but also a meeting point for breeders, owners, and horsemen connected by the sport’s greatest traditions. Preparation for the Keeneland team begins months in advance. After entries close on May 1, the catalog is carefully constructed through detailed pedigree study, and a crucial step in the process: yearling inspections. During a six-week span, the Keeneland sales team personally evaluates more than 3,000 yearlings on farms across the country, laying the foundation for what will be presented at the sale. This series revisits those months of work and preparation, while highlighting the historic role of Claiborne Farm as a cornerstone of Thoroughbred breeding and racing history.
