Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets - Japan-t Garde #moviereview

This week we meet Shuji Terayama, writer, provocateur, film maker, legend. Apparently. Of course living here in Canada Kyle and Dave have never heard of him. But this experimental counter culture film from 1971 is making that cult classic round and we sat down in front of it. Shaky cam and all. It's got all sorts of intellectual things... violence, garish color palettes, beastiality, fetishes, monologues, breaking of linear narratives and the fourth wall, abstractions, performative scenes smashed against what is meant to be a pseudo documentary-like window into a young man's life. etc. It's a mess. But, like so many films of this era, Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets got us talking and researching and generally doing our best not to look TOO stupid. Check out our full conversation wherever you podcast. Subscribe here for the quicker youtube edits... all filler. And thanks for keeping up! Feel free to comment below... especially if you "get" this film.
