The Trojan War and Modern Warfare | Alexander N. | TEDxShrewsbury House School Youth
The battlefield has evolved from bronze swords to digital arenas, but have the core tenets of conflict changed? Shrewsbury House School pupil Alexander N. provides a brilliant historical analysis of the Trojan War, mapping ancient tactical paradigms directly onto contemporary military strategy. His presentation highlights the enduring nature of human conflict and the value of historical literacy in understanding modern global crises. This talk was recorded at the inaugural TEDxShrewsburyHouseSchoolYouth event held at Shrewsbury House School, Surbiton, UK, on Wednesday 10th June 2026. Centred on the theme of 'Innovation', this event served as a global showcase for "Ideas Worth Spreading", bridging professional insights from the St Paul’s School Group with the rigorous independent research of young scholars. The St Paul's School Group is a collaborative partnership of leading, not-for-profit schools united by a shared commitment to educational excellence; with Shrewsbury House School as a founding member, the Group combines long-established traditions with forward-thinking leadership. Founded in 1865, Shrewsbury House School is one of England’s oldest and most distinguished independent boys' preparatory schools, with a history of preparing pupils for major public schools. This event marked a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to academic excellence, public speaking and character development. Throughout the programme, Shrewsbury House School pupils delivered the culmination of their Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB) Project Qualification (iPQ). In taking to the red carpet to confront complex global and intellectual challenges, these young voices reflected the school's aim to develop independent, curious and passionate learners to succeed in a changing world, whilst demonstrating its five core values: Respect, Perseverance, Integrity, Compassion and Aspiration. Alexander N. is a pupil at Shrewsbury House School.
