Hey guys, the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have been around for a while now, and the question that a lot of people ask is: What is the Lidar Scanner and what is it for? Come with me and I'll tell you right after the intro. That's right, folks. The cameras on the new iPhone 12 are the highlights of the new generation, and in this video I want to explain the differences between them. These are somewhat technical details, but I'll try to make everything as simple as possible so that you can understand. The word LiDAR is an acronym for Light Detection And Ranging. This technology can measure the distance between objects using light and lasers, allowing you to create a 3D model of any object, for example. In other words, we see that one of its uses is precisely the ability to measure places, people, objects, etc. Yes, the new iPhones are capable of mapping a place or object with extreme precision. As stated on Apple's own website, "the LiDAR Scanner on iPhone 12 Pro measures the time it takes for light to reflect off an object and creates a depth map of any space. With such speed and precision, augmented reality apps can now show exactly how a sneaker will look on your foot or even transform your living room into the surface of another planet." This is actually the same idea behind ToF sensors, present in many Android smartphones. I'm here, for example, with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which has this functionality. With the LiDAR sensor, Apple has also managed to enable the possibility of taking photos using portrait mode in nighttime environments. So yes, it is possible to use both technologies at once here. In addition, the autofocus, according to Apple, is also faster and more accurate. (But honestly, this is a point that I have never had any problems with) The improvement also applies to photos with portrait mode during the day, which supposedly also look better. (But honestly, I didn't notice any difference compared to the 11 Pro Max) I also wanted to explain the difference in the cameras between the iPhone 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max... While the regular Pro model uses the same main camera as the regular iPhone 12, the 12 Pro Max model has a 47% larger sensor, with larger pixels. And this means that the amount of light that the photo sensor can capture is greater, and consequently the photos are better, especially at night. Another thing that changes in the 12 Pro Max is that optical stabilization now happens in the sensor itself and not in the lens as it happens in all other iPhone 12 models. With this, the stabilization is more precise, and the chance of photos being blurry is much lower, for example. Finally, another thing that changes between them is the optical zoom camera, which is the one that allows you to zoom without losing quality. And here's a catch. If you look at Apple's website, it says that the optical zoom range of the iPhone 12 Pro is 4x, while that of the 12 Pro Max is 5x. And that's the problem, the word "range". When APPLE uses the word range, they also take into account the main camera and the ultra-wide-angle camera. So, the zoom range they talk about starts to be counted from the ultra-wide-angle camera, and not the main one. With that, the zoom cameras don't do 4x and 5x optical zoom, but 2x on the 12 Pro and 2.5x on the 12 Pro Max. Is there anything else you still want to know? Tell me in the comments. I'm Matheus Kise and I'll leave it at that. Until next time. 🎥 🎞 📸 Equipment used in this video: Camera: Lumix G85 with Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens // Sony A6600 + Sigma 18-35mm F 1.8 Audio: Sennheiser ME 67 microphone Edited in Final Cut Pro X on a Macbook Pro late 2015 15" i7 16gb RAM
