Sound System en Bogotá: El Gran Latido (reggae y dub en Colombia) | Sonidos Bestiales Shock

Beastly Sounds is our hunt for the stories behind the sounds of Colombia. This time, we present a crew led by Bogotá native Richie Bones, who has brought one of the most distinctive expressions of dub and reggae culture to Bogotá: the sound system El Gran Latido (The Great Heartbeat). Sound systems are sound consoles made with handcrafted boxes that originated in Jamaica, but today resonate in different parts of the world, helping the culture grow and demonstrating that they are much more than just a pile of equipment. Around the sound system come together a soundman, MCs (singers), box boys, producers, and above all, the community that receives this mix of music and message in its streets. El Gran Latido was born in Bogotá and has been organizing the most important concerts of the genre, featuring top-tier artists from around the world. We took advantage of the presence of the French collective O.B.F. (Original Bass Foundation) to understand everything behind this culture, to feel its pulse, and to join in its solemnity. Discover how this movement is sustained, where it comes from, where it's going, and what mystique has unified this feeling worldwide.
