I have recorded this hymn, Mwabale Tiwe Maso (Brethren Be Alert) also popular known as Muchenjere na Nyifwa ("Be Alert for Death"), in loving memory of SKC, the eight others who lost their lives alongside him, and my late father. This hymn reminds us that death can come at any time. It calls us to remain vigilant, to live according to God's law, and to keep our eyes fixed on the promise of the heavenly crown. Both SKC and my father were devoted Catholics whose lives reflected a deep faith in God. On the day of his death, my father prayed, lit a blessed candle, and instructed everyone around him: "Leave it to burn to the end." Later that same day, he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away. Looking back, I believe he was spiritually prepared for his final journey. Similarly, on that fateful Monday morning, SKC attended Mass and was heard singing wholeheartedly during the hymns. Just a few hours later, he tragically lost his life in a plane crash. Despite holding one of the highest offices in the land, he remained a man of faith who trusted in God. In his own way, he too was alert and prepared. Their lives remind us of an important truth: none of us knows the day or the hour. May this hymn encourage us all to stay close to God, live faithfully, and always be prepared for the moment when He calls us home. May the souls of SKC, the eight others, my father, and all the faithful departed rest in eternal peace
