Dissolving Aerial Chains

What an amazing opportunity to share this act at the @aerialarts_society competition this past November. When I first started aerial I saw an incredible aerial silks act to this song and have been wanting to choreograph a piece to it ever since. This one felt deeply personal for me. I explored the struggles I face when negative thoughts take over and it seems like they are spiraling out of control. In those moments, it feels like I lose touch with who I am and I’m dissolving into something unrecognizable. Choreographing this piece on chains allowed me to feel the weight of it, the rawness, and the fight to come back to myself. If you’re struggling, especially in these winter times, know that you are not alone. It is okay to ask for help. Here are a few ways to check in when things start to feel overwhelming: *Breathe - Take a moment to slow down and focus on your breath. *Basic needs check - Have you eaten? Are you dehydrated and over caffeinated? Have you moved your body? *Phone a friend - I know it’s so hard to reach when you already feel low but friends love supporting each other when we can. *Journal your feelings - sometimes it helps to get it on a page and out of your head *Get some vitamin D! Whether you can sit in the sun for 5 mins or take supplements during the darker times of the year.
