The 1970s were one of the most complex, contradictory, and decisive periods in the history of the Italian Republic. These were years in which the country, emerging from an economic boom and suddenly forced to confront social crises, political instability, terrorism, and profound cultural transformations, was dragged into a season of unprecedented change. In this video, we retrace the history of Italy, which, in the space of a decade, saw ancient balances crumble and new rights, new identities, and new political protagonists emerge. Our journey begins in 1974, when Italians were called to the polls for the first time to decide whether to uphold or repeal the divorce law. The referendum became a test of the conflict between a secular and progressive Italy, demanding greater individual freedom and self-determination, and a conservative and Catholic Italy opposed to change. The victory of the "NO" vote to repeal marked a turning point: it not only upheld the divorce law, but paved the way for a new era of reform, a era in which civil society began to outweigh the political parties themselves. The words of key figures of the time, from Marco Pannella to the leaders of the Christian Democrats, reveal the climate of tension and ideological conflict that foreshadowed a now inevitable change. In the following years, Parliament passed fundamental reforms: from the 1975 Family Law, which established legal equality between spouses and abolished outdated norms, to Law 194 of 1978, which legalized voluntary termination of pregnancy. Italy became a laboratory for civil rights, while society increasingly distanced itself from the traditional Catholic cultural hegemony. Women conquered new spaces in politics, work, and family, waging crucial battles for the country's democratic modernization. This profound change, however, did not only concern the sphere of rights: it also affected the party system. Enrico Berlinguer's PCI attempted a historic turning point with the historic compromise, a strategy aimed at bringing Communists and Christian Democrats together to stabilize the country. This move stemmed from the fear of coups d'état like the one in Chile in 1973 and marked a new way of conceiving the role of the left in Italy. On the other hand, the Christian Democrats attempted to maintain their leadership, but were increasingly weakened by internal divisions, scandals, short-lived governments, and fragile alliances. Toward the end of the decade, a new figure emerged, destined to change the balance of Italian politics: Bettino Craxi, who in 1976 took over the leadership of the PSI and initiated a profound modernization of the party. Craxi broke the inertia of the traditional left, distanced himself from the PCI, and proposed a reformist, independent line, closer to European social democracy. This was a clear sign of a political system attempting to reinvent itself, as the country moved toward a new, more complex, and more uncertain phase. ► Discord Server:   / discord   ► Instagram (@lastoriasultubo):   / lastoriasul…   ► TikTok (@lastoriasultubo): https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8tS7YR1/ ► Facebook:   / lastoriasultubo   =================================== 00:00 - The Divorce Referendum 02:38 - A Period of Reforms: Age of Majority, Marital Rights, and Abortion 04:12 - The Rise of Enrico Berlinguer's PCI: The Historic Compromise and Eurocommunism 07:21 - The June 1976 Elections: The PCI Nears the Victory 8:00 AM - The Rise of Bettino Craxi ======================================== STARRING: Francesco Furesi, Pietro Iacopo Benzi ARTISTIC DIRECTION: Francesco Furesi SCREENPLAY: Pietro Iacopo Benzi, Francesca Faverio, Francesco Furesi HISTORY CONTENT: Pietro Iacopo Benzi, Francesca Faverio PHOTOGRAPHY: Mattia Rossetti, Niccolò Gabbana, Niccolò Gabbana DIRECTED AUDIO: Edoardo Conti PA SET: Filippo di Francesco EDITING: Edoardo Conti PRODUCTION DESIGN: Erica Mora MOTION DESIGN: Francesco Furesi, Mattia Rossetti, Lauryn Stella Sardella STOCK FOOTAGE: Pietro Iacopo Benzi COVER: Simone Acquaroli SOUND DESIGN & MIX: Andrea Romani
