Hope in a Culture of Fear | Canadian Filmmaker Speaks Out

This episode of Tower Talks features a discussion with Kevin Dunn about euthanasia, the ministry of presence, being pro-life, and becoming a prophet of hope in a culture of fear. Kevin Dunn is a Catholic filmmaker and international speaker whose work today is rooted in a powerful message: becoming a prophet of hope. His work and talks have been seen and experienced by thousands all around the world from Australia to Romania, from the UK to USA and Canada. But his journey into faith-based storytelling began in a very different world. Kevin grew up in a television studio, watching his father direct programs like Tiny Talent Time at CHCH-TV, which sparked a lifelong love for media, storytelling and music. That passion led him into a diverse broadcasting career—from creating commercial jingles to hosting late-night television to performing as a children’s puppeteer for a children’s television. He went on to large-scale documentaries for networks like Discovery Channel, CTV and ARTE France. His early work ranged widely: from telling the story of retro television in “As Seen on TV: The K-Tel Story ”, to groundbreaking science programming like Secrets of the Dinosaur Mummy, where a 77-million-year-old dinosaur was autopsied and CT scanned to uncover its final moments—what it ate, how it lived, even the texture of its skin. But over time, Kevin felt called to use the power of storytelling for something deeper. Today, his films—recognized at multiple international film festivals—reflect that deeper mission. Most recently, his film Permission, telling the story of Fr. Bob Bedard, was awarded Best Biographical Film at the World Film Festival in Cannes (pronounced ‘Can’). Whether exploring the origins of the Catholic faith in Canada (Bridge of Roses: The Story of Our Lady of the Cape ), the witness of the North American Martyrs and Indigenous faithful (Of Blood and Water), the renewal of the Church (Permission), or the dignity of life from conception to natural death (ROE Canada, Fatal Flaws, Euthanasia Deception), all of his work shares a unifying purpose: to point the conversation towards Hope -even in the darkest of circumstances. In a culture often trapped in cycles of fear, division, and despair, Kevin’s work invites audiences to rediscover hope—not as an abstract idea, but as a person: Jesus Christ. His message is twofold: that we are each called to become prophets of hope through our words and actions, and that in times of anxiety and discouragement, we must also seek out those prophets of hope in our own lives—people who point us toward truth, toward life, and ultimately toward the Eucharist.
