Total Football by Maximillian Rudd Live with Perth Choro Club

Total Football is a composition dedicated to my teacher and friend, master Melbourne guitarist and composer Doug de Vries. Doug is not only a world-class player and musician living right here in Melbourne, but he is an inspiring teacher to whom I owe an enormous debt of gratitude for the way in which he willingly shares his expertise and guides young musicians in Melbourne interested in the guitar and all its offerings. The composition takes inspiration from the great Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell de Aquino, who is amongst Doug's most important influences. This choro sambado or samba chorado celebrates an intricate musical language that is marked by rhythmic and harmonic nuance, technique and finesse. 'Total Football' is a phrase Doug ascribes to musicians who, like he and Baden Powell, aspire to know the music in great detail.
