Overlanding into Canyons, Hot Springs to Prairies - Unexpected Beauty of Idaho Backcountry

Welcome back to another adventure with Rasta Dog and me as we continue winding our way around the PNW and slowly start working our way back home. We pick up a few weeks back in stunning Idaho, where pine-covered ridges meet wide open sky and every road feels like a gamble in the best way. With no set agenda, we made a last-minute decision to change our route and just follow whatever looked interesting on the map. What started as a simple detour turned into one of those rare trips where everything feels serendipitous. We crossed through valleys painted in late-season color, drove along rivers I didn’t even know existed, and found ourselves standing in places I’ve only ever seen on other travelers’ videos. It was my first time exploring Idaho completely unplanned, and that openness led us into views and hidden trails I never expected to find. There’s something special about letting curiosity lead the way — no deadlines, no expectations, just discovering beauty one mile at a time. Rasta Dog was living his best life with his head out the window, and I was reminded why I chase these roads in the first place.
