Born and raised at ADVENTURE WORLD in Wakayama, Japan, and later returned to China, the giant pandas Tou Hin, You Hin, and Xiong Bang continue to play important roles in international conservation research programs. This educational documentary presents the latest footage recorded in 2026, examining their current living environments and behavioral adaptations after repatriation to China. Within international giant panda conservation programs, one major research focus is how pandas adapt to entirely new environments after relocation. Conservation facilities in China differ greatly in climate, humidity, enclosure structure, bamboo species, and levels of human interaction. Because of these environmental differences, researchers closely observe each panda’s individual adaptation process. In particular, the behavioral characteristics displayed by pandas that spent many years in Japanese zoological environments provide valuable scientific insight into how captive environments influence cognition, movement patterns, and ecological behavior in giant pandas. Throughout this documentary, we analyze bamboo selection during feeding, locomotion speed, resting intervals, hydration behavior, and exploratory movement patterns in order to better understand the panda’s ecological strategy for minimizing energy expenditure. Giant pandas survive on a high-fiber, low-nutrient bamboo diet, requiring a highly optimized balance between feeding, resting, and movement. As a result, even their seemingly slow and gentle behaviors reflect rational physiological adaptations shaped by evolutionary energy constraints. The documentary also explores the role of conservation research facilities in China, including breeding management, maintenance of genetic diversity, veterinary care, and long-term health monitoring of captive giant pandas. Through the latest observational footage, we examine how Japan-born pandas contribute to a global conservation research network and what their current lives reveal about the future of giant panda preservation. Tou Hin — A female giant panda born at Adventure World in Wakayama Prefecture on December 2, 2014. She relocated to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on February 22, 2023, where she currently lives as part of international conservation and breeding programs. You Hin — A female giant panda born at Adventure World on August 11, 2010. She moved to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in June 2017 to participate in breeding and conservation research initiatives. Xiong Bang — A male giant panda born at Adventure World on December 17, 2001. He became the world’s first giant panda successfully born in captivity during winter.
