Facebook page:   / manochaacademy   Image formation by a convex lens: A convex lens is a converging lens. It bends light rays towards the principal axis and can form real or virtual images depending on the position of the object. Ray diagram rules: A ray parallel to the principal axis passes through the focus after refraction. A ray passing through the focus emerges parallel to the principal axis. A ray passing through the optical centre goes straight without deviation. Image formation: When the object is beyond 2F, the image is formed between F and 2F. The image is real, inverted and diminished. When the object is at 2F, the image is formed at 2F. The image is real, inverted and of the same size. When the object is between F and 2F, the image is formed beyond 2F. The image is real, inverted and enlarged. When the object is at F, the image is formed at infinity. When the object is between the optical centre and F, the image is formed on the same side of the lens as the object. The image is virtual, erect and enlarged. Image formation by a concave lens: A concave lens is a diverging lens. It bends light rays away from the principal axis and always forms a virtual image. Ray diagram rules: A ray parallel to the principal axis appears to come from the focus after refraction. A ray directed towards the focus emerges parallel to the principal axis. A ray passing through the optical centre goes straight without deviation. Image formation: For all positions of the object, the image is formed between the optical centre and the focus. The image is always virtual, erect and diminished. The image is formed on the same side of the lens as the object. At Manocha Academy, learning Science and Math is Easy!
