Ford Transit Connect Camper Conversion

This video shows my two attempts to convert my 2012 Ford Transit Connect into a tiny camper. While the first one had to be finished within a week to go on the first trip, the second attempt took me some more time. Most of the wooden panels that I used were from the leftovers from others and I got them either really cheap or even for free. The vertical panels are 9mm and the horizontal ones are 13mm thick with 40mm thick wooden support beams below. Just for the fold-out desk, I bought some very nice smooth wood which I painted with a scratch-resistant paint. It was important for me to be able to fit two mountain bikes in the van without having to take off the bike wheels. Therefore, I had to decide against a permanent full-width bench with extra storage space behind both front seats. The folding bench that I decided for allowed me to keep the full length of the cargo space on one side of the bed free for the bikes. I'm really happy with the shelf design that I went for. I was thinking back and forth between a proper wide permanent vertical shelf in combination with a smaller bed, or a smaller shelf in combination with a wider bed. The inclined geometry was something I hadn't seen before but it was the perfect compromise in my opinion. It allowed me to fit a 190cm (75 inch) long and 140 cm (55 inch) wide mattress in the van while still having a wider storage space below and above the bed. I decided to use an Ikea Tanger matress topper which is 6cm thick and can easily be folded in half when the bed is in couch mode. The wooden clips to lock the desk when folded in, I made myself but I copied the idea from another van that I saw. I would recommend everybody to install this extended overhead board.
