बराबर पहाड़ियों या वाणावर पर्वत पर अवस्थित शंकर भगवान को समर्पित सिद्धेश्वर नाथ महादेव मंदिर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण, महादेव, पाण्डव और बाणासुर से संबंधित है| यह मंदिर बराबर शृंखला की सबसे ऊंची चोटी पर अवस्थित है| पटना से बराबर पहाड़ी सड़क मार्ग से करीब 65 किलोमीटर तथा गया से 30 किमी उत्तर-पूरब में और जहानाबाद जिला मुख्यालय से 25 किमी दक्षिण-पूरब में स्थित है| बराबर पहाड़ पर मौजूद बाबा सिद्धनाथ मंदिर का निर्माण सातवीं शताब्दी में गुप्ता काल के दौरान कराया गया था। हालांकि इसे लेकर दंतकथाओं में यह भी प्रचलित है कि राजगीर के महान राजा जरासंध द्वारा इस मंदिर का निर्माण कराया गया था। यहां से गुप्त मार्ग राजगीर किले तक पहुंचा था। इस रास्ते से राजा पूजा-अर्चना करने के लिए मंदिर में आते थे। पहाड़ी के नीचे विशाल जलाशय पातालगंगा में स्नान कर मंदिर में पूजा-अर्चना की जाती थी| एक कथा वामनरूपधारी भगवान को पृथ्वी दान देनेवाले राजा बलि के सौ पुत्रों में ज्येष्ठ पुत्र बाणासुर से भी संबंधित है| उदार, बुद्धिमान व अटल प्रतिज्ञा के लिए प्रसिद्ध बाणासुर भगवान शिव की भक्ति में मग्न रहता था| बराबर पर्वत शृंखला न केवल स्वच्छंद और प्रदूषण रहित नैसर्गिक सौंदर्य को समेटे है, बल्कि भारत की अमूल्य पौराणिक एवं ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों का संगम भी है| हजारों साल पुराने इस शिव मंदिर में जल चढ़ाने के लिए सालों भर श्रद्धालु आते हैं, लेकिन सावन में तो यहां श्रद्धालुओं का तांता लगा रहता है। यहां मगध के महान सम्राट अशोक के समय के शिलालेख आज भी उस साम्राज्य की गाथा अपने अंदर सहेजे हुए हैं। ब्राह्मी लिपि में लिखे यह अभिलेख हजारों साल के इतिहास का जीवंत प्रमाण हैं| The Siddheshwar Nath Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shankar, situated on Barabar hills or Vanavar mountain, is related to Lord Krishna, Mahadev, Pandavas and Banasura. This temple is situated on the highest peak of the Barabar range. Barabar Pahari is located about 65 km from Patna by road, 30 km north-east from Gaya and 25 km south-east from district headquarter Jehanabad. The Baba Siddhnath temple on the Barabar mountain was built during the Gupta period in the seventh century. However, it is also prevalent in legends regarding this that this temple was built by the great king Jarasandha of Rajgir. From here the secret route reached Rajgir Fort. Through this route, the king used to come to the temple to offer prayers. Bathing in the huge reservoir Patalganga below the hill, worship was done in the temple. A story is also related to Banasura, the eldest son among the hundred sons of King Bali, who donated the earth to the Lord in the form of a dwarf. Banasur, famous for his generous, intelligent and unwavering vows, used to be engrossed in the devotion of Lord Shiva. The Barabar mountain range not only boasts of clean and pollution-free natural beauty, but is also a confluence of invaluable mythological and historical heritage of India. Devotees come throughout the years to offer water to this Shiva temple thousands of years old, but there is an influx of devotees here in Sawan. Here the inscriptions of the time of the great emperor Ashoka of Magadha are still preserved inside the saga of that empire.
