I Let the Color Wheel Choose My Fair Isle Colors

Before you commit to a knit, you need to choose your yarn color combinations. And on this 10-color Fair Isle vest, I needed to be certain before I started. My mom and I both decided to knit the same Fair Isle pattern, but with completely different colorways. I used a triadic color scheme to pick my dominant color and two accent hues, then swatched to see how they actually looked together. At first I was going for a mustard, magenta, turquoise combination. But it started to look like…a ham and cheese sandwich. The fix was value contrast. I swapped in a deep wine for one of my pinks and pushed the lights brighter. Suddenly…it popped!
