JWA Amateur - Pro Wrestling Documentary

In the 70s and 80s, becoming a pro wrestler in Japan was very difficult. People below a certain height were essentially barred from entry. The JWA was a network of organizations - JWA Kansai, JWA Tokai, JWA Morioka, JWA Kanto etc. - founded on the principle that any regular person, given proper training, should be able to become a wrestler. Calling themselves 'Amateur Pro Wrestling' or 'Pro Style Wrestling', sometimes 'Working Mens Pro Wrestling', these groups put on events on mats, usually with the audience having free admission and the wrestlers receiving no money. The JWA was different from 'student pro wrestling' which was often more comedic and seen as light hearted entertainment, while the JWA aimed to put on serious pro wrestling. Their mission was to show that pro wrestling is so great that it would even be great on the amateur level and that you can make up for you lack of a body through sheer passion. This documentary collects various clips of the scene as well as interviews and insights into training and showcases a few pioneers of the scene and hyper obscure names such as Fighter Fujimoto, Big Akahira, Stun Gun Takamura, Hannibal Shimizu, Riki Ishikawa, Buffalo Sakata, Katsuji Ohama, Jaguar Ikeda, Demon Kimura, Killer Imahori, Phantom Funakoshi, Jackie Miki, Phoenix Tanaka, Hitoshi Toyoda...
