Project: San Jose Has the Blues | JC Smith Live at Biscuit & Blues
PROJECT: SAN JOSE HAS THE BLUES Most people know Silicon Valley for technology. Few know that San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley have nurtured one of California's most vibrant blues communities for more than half a century. From legendary venues and radio personalities to internationally acclaimed musicians, local festivals, and late-night blues jams, the blues has become an unlikely but enduring part of the cultural fabric of Silicon Valley. This performance by acclaimed guitarist, vocalist, and radio host JC Smith was filmed at San Francisco's legendary Biscuits & Blues and serves as one of the first entries in Project: San Jose Has the Blues, a new initiative from San Jose Rocks dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing the stories of the artists, venues, broadcasters, educators, promoters, and fans who built the South Bay blues scene. Through performances, interviews, archival research, photographs, recordings, and community storytelling, San Jose Rocks is creating a living archive of the people and places that helped make San Jose a blues destination. Along the way, we'll explore the stories of artists including JC Smith, Tommy Castro, Chris Cain, Gary Smith, Andy Just, Aki Kumar, Laura Chavez, Shane Dwight, Max Cabello Jr., and many others. We'll revisit iconic venues, celebrate the Fountain Blues Festival, and examine how generations of musicians helped create a unique blues culture in the heart of Silicon Valley. This is more than music history. It's the story of a community, a culture, and a sound that continues to inspire new generations of musicians today. Welcome to Project: San Jose Has the Blues. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ABOUT SAN JOSE ROCKS San Jose Rocks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting, preserving, and celebrating the musical heritage of San Jose and Silicon Valley.
