Dixies Challenge Rally Crashes, Highlights & Pure Sound, 3/5/26

A dramatic day on Epynt is perhaps putting it mildly. This one turned into a day of confusion, crashes, incredible flat out driving on arguably the sketchiest roads to go rallying on in Wales, incredibly good weather followed by biblical rain, a lot of cameras not working and the loss of one immaculate Darrian GTR for Russell Davies and Richard Suter. That is included at the end of the video, so if you don't want to see it, feel free to tune out at that point. I have left it in as I think it is important to learn just how quickly these things can take hold, as gutting as it was to watch back for a crew that had been running rather well in the morning. Damian Cole & Ian Allsop would win this one once again as Damian further extends his reign as the King of Epynt, with a subtle style that perhaps masks the pace he has over here. Only 2 seconds separated him at the end of the day from Jason Pritchard & Phil Clarke and the ever impressing Thomas Cooper & Sarah Edwards coming home in 3rd. Fastest RWD car was Josh Payton & Jamie Vaughan on a pretty successful 4th place for the Escort guys, and an even more impressive fastest FWD car of the day went to Joel John & Richard Burton in their Vauxhall Asta GSI in 14th overall. Why was it so impressive? Well you'll see in this video what they got away with! Interestingly on the first stage of the day it was Rob Morris & Osian Pryce leading the rally in their Citroen C3 from Pritchard & Clarke followed by Cole & Allsopp, but a significantly slower time for Morris & Pryce over SS2 saw them begin to drop down the time sheets as the day went on, with the final results looking a bit more clear for the top 3 by the end of SS3. SS3 also saw the first of a handful of big offs as Stefan Morris and Frazer Moss had a massive moment over the bamford jumps which sent them flying down the bank out of frame on the camera, and SS4 saw the John & Burton pairing somehow get away with a sideways attack on the steps and find the only smooth patch of grass on Epynt to go sailing across SS5 saw the day turned upside down with blaze that took out the Davies & Suter Darrian that burned almost as soon as the car shut off and sadly could not be saved. It felt like just about every available extinguisher on the ranges was used on the car before the local fire engine had to deal with what was left, and what at one point looked to set the entire land on fire. This cancelled the stage and the second pass through, erasing SS5, SS7 & inital plan for SS9. Further incidents stopped SS8 as Epynt refused to let us leave without getting wet in some extraordinary but slow moving rainfall that at one point was only falling on one side of the ranges. Many cars went home at this point or aquaplaned off at the end of the final set of stages, before all was wrapped up by about 5PM Mixed day really. Fog in the morning made setting up cameras almost impossible YET AGAIN! So I can't say I'm too happy with the job done. Big thanks to chief brolly dolly Colin Taylor though in the afternoon. It was only on the ride home did I truly appreciate how wet I wasn't!
