Discover wild Orkney: Summer
Discover wild Orkney in summer. Long summer days show Orkney at its best; its beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife from playful common seals to dancing tysties (black guillemots). In summer, the cliffs are packed with seabirds including puffins, fulmars and kittiwakes. Flowers bloom providing a tapestry of colours and the islands come alive with sound - from the mournful whistles of golden plovers on the moors to the eerie sound of red-throated divers to the pantomime-esque ooo eiders on the coast. Orkney provides an important home for some of the UK's most threatened wildlife from hen harriers to seabirds to curlews and corncrakes. Take a look for yourself to discover wild Orkney in summer.
