New Kabarole District Speaker Speaks to MMU Radio, Pledges Youth Empowerment and Service Delivery Basaija idd/Philip Tumwebaze Mugabe Ribbinson, the new Speaker of Kabarole District Local Government Council, has committed to inspiring young people to join politics and to dedicating himself to effective leadership and service delivery. A councillor representing Busoro Town Council, Mugabe’s leadership journey began at Kyebambe Model Primary School and Kibito Secondary School. He later served as a youth chairperson for Bugunda in the then Fort Portal Municipality’s East Division. Moving to Busoro, Mugabe contested and won the town council seat unopposed. In an exclusive interview with MMU Radio, Mugabe revealed that his decision to run for the speakership was driven by personal research into the district’s challenges. He identified issues such as inadequate health facilities, poor school infrastructure, and low councillor remuneration as areas that require urgent attention. Mugabe emphasized the importance of unity among council members, stating, “My focus will be on uniting all councilors so we can address Kabarole’s issues as a team. When leaders work together, I believe we can take Kabarole to greater heights in the next five years.” He also highlighted his commitment to fighting corruption, which he views as a barrier to fair employment and development. “The office of the speaker is always open. If you have cases of corruption, I urge you to come forward—let’s say no to corruption,” he said. Mugabe urged young people in Tooro aspiring to enter politics to remain humble, respectful, and determined. He acknowledged that resource constraints often discourage youth from pursuing leadership but assured them that perseverance and innovative ideas will eventually gain support. He cautioned voters to see leaders as agents of development rather than expecting monetary favors, emphasizing that true leadership is about service and progress. The speaker also encouraged young to work hard, invest the little they have and a void alcohol which has consumed the health of many young people in the land.
