John Laws, the legendary Australian radio broadcaster known as 'Golden Tonsils', has passed away peacefully at age 90, exactly one year and one day after retiring from his microphone. The broadcasting pioneer commanded a career spanning more than 70 years, beginning at 3BO Bendigo in 1953 and helping shape the evolution of talkback radio through his work at Sydney stations 2UE and 2GB. Born Richard John Sinclair Laws in Papua New Guinea in 1935, he overcame two bouts of polio to become one of Australia's most influential media figures, earning a fortune and the power to sway prime ministers through his unmistakeable velvet voice.
