Named after the capsule that protects you and your family members, the Toyota Pod is a collaboration between Sony and Toyota, based on their vision on how the future would look like from 2001 onwards, screaming Frutiger Aero all around. Presented on the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, the Pod was one of the 17 Toyota concept vehicles shown on the weekend. Intended to be more of a driving partner than a car, it can guess your feelings based on how sweaty your palms are or how unpatiently you are driving. If the car considered you too angry, it would play relaxed music. These emotions would show on the exterior of the car as well - the car emits orange lights when happy, red when angry, or deep blue when in agony, to further prove that it tries to be more of a living entity than a passenger vehicle. Furthermore, its "tail" can also move almost like a dog's! Not only it tries to entertain the driver, but the family members as well; each seat in the car comes with its own entertaining system, so everyone can find a way to make the trip feel shorter or simply just more enjoyable in general. The displays, the Emotional Control Unit and the unique "joystick" that controls the car like a steering wheel were designed by Sony. The car uses the engine of the Toyota Vitz generation that was produced at that time, namely the 1NZ-FE.
