Tisas 1911A1 - 9mm - First Shots
Tisas 1911A1 - 9mm - First Shots Ok. So hear me out. I intentionally targeted this gun since it is chambered in 9mm. We already have plenty of 45ACP guns in the library, including full customs and even a WWI MILSURP. What we don’t have is a USGI format of gun that is chambered in 9mm, because that gun is a fantasy. Not only that, but it comes with a ramped barrel (this requires a modified frame), seems slightly dehorned and the spur hammer doesn’t bite. Basically perfect for use in some of our 1911 drill videos. Aka a range toy. Does this mean I endorse Tisas? Nope. We will see how this gun holds up longer term, but keep in mind we will NOT be running this as a primary or training gun. In essence it’s a video queen to compare against higher-end 1911s on the clock. My opinions and feelings. I like the gun was only $450. It’s enjoyable to shoot because it has been slightly dehorned (cough cough looking at you, Colt). And its in the caliber of the times: 9mm. I have zero idea if this 1911 is fit well. Nor do I know for certain if it has MIM or cast parts. And I do not care. Also anyone buying Tisas guns to just turn around and switch a bunch of parts in them, without first wringing them out for a few thousand rounds, has a not insignificant character flaw in my opinion. Dare I say a type of socially induced pathology. Owning a gun doesn’t infer skill. No matter how hard some gun guys try. Neither does upgrading it. Or being able to memorize all the model specs. Don’t sink money in these guns. Buy them for what they are and shoot them. If something breaks, or if you honest to goodness wear something out, then that’s an accomplishment. Fix it then. So remember: the value in Tisas is in their cost effective clones and lower end offerings. A $800-900-1200 price point Tisas turns me off. A $350-450 USGI, fantasy, 9mm that actually looks and feels like a new WWII production gun from 1941? Sure. I’ll bite.
