La Citroën SM: il cuore Maserati che ha ucciso un impero francese!
The Citroën SM: the Maserati heart that killed a French empire. In 1968, Citroën bought Maserati for a single engine, and this changed the history of both companies forever. In just three weeks, the brilliant Italian engineer Giulio Alfieri designed a revolutionary V6 that would give birth to the SM, a Franco-Italian grand tourer capable of challenging Ferrari, Porsche, and Mercedes with technologies 20 years ahead of the competition. Popes, presidents, and Soviet leaders wanted it, it won rallies in the Moroccan desert and reached 325 km/h on the Bonneville salt flats, but exploding engines, skyrocketing oil prices, and the closure of the American market drove Citroën into bankruptcy. Only 12,920 units were built before Peugeot shut everything down and forever erased Citroën's dream of luxury.
