The Creepers RABBIT HOLE! (Dollar Tree's BIZARRE Goosebumps Knockoff)

The past couple years, I kept seeing the Creepers books at Dollar Tree and assumed they were just another Goosebumps knock-off. But the more I looked into them, the stranger the story became. What started as a quick video turned into one of the deepest publishing rabbit holes I've ever fallen into. In this video, I'm tracing the complete history of the Creepers horror book series, from its origins in Scotland in the late 1990s through its many international editions in Russia, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Along the way, we uncover the mystery of Edgar J. Hyde, the series' supposed author, and the surprising truth behind the ghostwriters who actually wrote these spooky children's books. We'll take a look at every era of the series, including the original Shivers editions, all four Creepers series published by Children's Choice Publications, the hardcover collections, the Igloo Books editions, and the Flowerpot Press releases at Dollar Tree that have introduced the books to a whole new generation of readers. I also explore the many international translations, including the massive Russian series that expanded far beyond the original twenty-four books, the Italian I Brividosi editions, and the Brazilian Hora do Espanto books. Along the way, we'll talk about the real writers behind the Edgar J. Hyde name who rarely receive credit for their work. I'll also dive into related Books Noir series like The Dead Detective, Spooky Moon, and The Ghost Master, and look at what the future might hold for Creepers following Flowerpot Press's acquisition of the worldwide rights.
