Where do you start when you have nothing?

Where do you start when you have nothing? That question comes up every single time I stand in front of young people. Without fail. How do I create wealth when I have nothing to save, nothing to invest? And I want to answer it properly, because most people who ask it are really looking for an answer. You don't start with money. You start with the decision to stop giving all of it away before it ever earns you anything. That's the real problem with "starting from zero." Most people think zero is about what's sitting in their account. It's not. It's about what you've never packaged, and what you've never protected. Nobody owes you a second look until you know exactly what you're worth and can say it without apology. And nobody builds wealth by letting every shilling disappear into someone else's invoice before it ever works for them. I have sat across from people with nothing to their name who carried themselves like they already had something the room needed. And I have sat across from people with impressive credentials who couldn't tell me, in one sentence, why anyone should care. Only one of those two walks out with an opportunity.
