God’s law requires that we love one another as we love ourselves. Then all the power and action of the mind will be directed toward that goal: to do all the good that is possible. How pleasing it is to the Giver of gifts when we retain them and manifest their power to others! These gifts are the link between God and human beings and reveal the spirit of Christ and the attributes of heaven. The power of holiness—that which is seen without causing boasting—speaks more eloquently than the best of sermons. It speaks of God and reveals to men and women their duty more powerfully than words (Christ Triumphant, July 22, p. 212). As witnesses for Christ, we must speak what we know, what we ourselves have seen, heard, and felt. If we have been following Jesus step by step, we will have something relevant to say about the way He has led us. We can explain how we have tested His promise and found it to be true. We can bear witness to what we have learned about the grace of Christ. This is the testimony our Lord asks for, and for lack of it the world perishes… The true Christian will give God first, last, and best place in everything. No ambitious motive will cool their love for God, but with perseverance and steadfastness they will honor their heavenly Father. When we faithfully exalt God’s name, our impulses are under divine direction, and we are empowered to develop spiritual and intellectual power. Jesus, the divine Teacher, always extolled the name of His heavenly Father. He taught His disciples to pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Matthew 6:9. They were not to forget to acknowledge: “Yours is… the glory.” Matthew 6:13 (God’s Amazing Grace, p. 105; partially in The Amazing Grace of God, April 7, p. 105).
