WHERE DO I BEGIN!!! This is a lead that I'd been trying to attack for 5 years. I remember downloading the HRV Blu-ray for the 2013 scan of this film and trying to color correct it for years. Let me tell you right now: there is SOMETHING WRONG with that scan. There's a huge list of problems. Me and my buddy Lyttee spent a total of 3 or so years just playing around with this scan, just trying to figure out what's wrong with it and trying to reverse engineer it. Lyttee ended up figuring out that one of the RGB channels was swapped in luminance, and we ended up getting a decent looking correction going, but still... all of the other issues were there, and we were never satisfied. After finally contacting Charity Davenport earlier this year, to my huge surprise, she was not only happy to help out, but she was literally about to go through her father's storage unit THAT SAME WEEK to do some spring cleaning and throw some stuff away. Had I sent my message just mere days later, there is a chance that I would not even be here presenting this 4k scan to you and writing this. Man, you CAN NOT imagine the excitement I was feeling waiting for the scan!!! Finally, this film was going to be seen in 4k resolution, with a workable color bed, with no noise reduction, with all of the camera flashes and lens flares, and the full, original crop. When you're so used to working on the PIXCEL scan that essentially has nothing but a purple hue, and you work on the raw film itself from a state-of-the-art scan, it's a very crazy and surreal feeling. Never before has this footage looked so good. This lead proved one thing to be true for me: NEVER GIVE UP!!! I had so many obstacles in my way when trying to get this film done, and everything worked out perfectly in the end. I am so, so happy. I can only thank Charity to the moon and back for her generosity, support and understanding, and actually shipping out this reel. I never thought I'd see the day! Wooooo... now let's talk about the film! I mean, come on. This film has got to be in the top 3 amateur Floyd films, right? If not number 1. On top of David Beals being an expert camera operator, providing a very brightly captured, fully focused film, the footage also contains unbelievable footage of nearly every song presented, with the obvious one being "Obscured By Clouds" and "When You're In", two songs mashed into one that they only played in 1973. The highlights of this film for me are the entirety of OBC/WYI, Set The Controls, and the first shot of Axe, as well as some of the amazing close-ups that were captured during the second set. He even got a shot of Gilmour on the organ during Great Gig! The colors captured in this footage are out of this world, and I am so happy that I can present an accurate representation of these March 1973 shows for you all to enjoy. Oh... and, need I address the elephant in the room? YEAH! The footage from the first set has real audio!!! I am very lucky to be able to share this all with you, with real audio for the first time ever, in 4k with the proper colors, and with the correct audio synchronization. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities that have fallen on my lap with this project. Thank you to the respective contributors who helped out! - If you or anybody you know may have unseen 8mm/16mm film, videotape, photographs or audio of Pink Floyd/Roger Waters/David Gilmour from 1967-1994, please contact us at [email protected]
