THAT Artist Feature: Serena Chang

To say that Serena Chang wears many hats would be an understatement. She’s the co-founder of Shisanwu, a production and fabrication facility that has helped artists like Anicka Yi realize kinetic sculptural works; a member of Lunch Hour, the collective behind the ambitious and critically acclaimed 80-person exhibition held in a Queens hosiery warehouse; and the force behind continuing her family’s hosiery business, Sheerly Touch Ya. Beyond all of that, Serena is also an accomplished artist in her own right, working across sculpture and installation. In this interview, she reflects on the making of Means of Production, the landmark Lunch Hour exhibition, and the ideas behind her recent solo show, Sweetwater, at Island Gallery, diving deeper into the drawing her father made that inspired the installation, and the layered process behind her wall-based works. 🔔 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to stay updated with our latest artist interviews and studio visits!
