A mere tool in the dreadlords' hands at first, Coil had been empowered by a powerful artifact, one whose malevolent magic had enhanced his strength and bestowed upon him a fierce, unyielding will. The artifact’s power was intoxicating, bending him to its dark influence and making him crave more. His loyalty to his masters—Tichondrius, Varimathras, Detheroc, and the other dreadlords—had started to fray. The very essence of the artifact called to him, whispering of more power, more conquest, more control. Coil began to see himself as a king in the making, not a mere soldier.
