Self Myofascial Technique to Mobilize the Pectoralis Major

This self myofascial technique address three primary heads of the pectoralis major: the costal head, sternal head and clavicular head. The technique also highlights the channel sinew (jingjin) relationship of this complex muscle to the yin channels of the arm described in Chinese medicine. The costal head is along the pericardium jingjin the sternal along the heart jingjin and the clavicular along the lung jingjin. Mobilization of each region is accompanied by an active movement incorporating their related yang channels. Pressure should be oriented into the muscle fibers. For women, the pressure should not be through the breast tissue and you might need to start more superior and above breast tissue to access the pectoralis major, especially the costal head.
