Some time ago, former President Álvaro Uribe sued his former ally, Zulema Jattin, for libel and slander. She submitted herself to the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) to contribute to the truth about the alliance between politicians and paramilitaries, at a time when she was accused by the Supreme Court of Justice of conspiracy to commit crimes within the parapolitics scandal. In that context, she stated that paramilitaries were preventing campaigning in certain areas of Córdoba and that she had told Álvaro Uribe about it in 2002: “I called the then-presidential candidate, Dr. Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who was at his ranch in Montería at the time, and I asked him to meet with me (…) I went to that meeting accompanied by Dr. Luis Felipe Villegas Ángel, who was a congressman for Sucre and who was also running for the House of Representatives in 2002, but for the department of Sucre, and who had, let's say, similar problems there to mine (…) The two of us went to El Ubérrimo in January of that year, and we told the candidate, who was a presidential candidate at the time, about what was happening in Córdoba and Sucre, naming names (…) and he asked me if I had any real proof, other than just my testimony about the prohibition against campaigning in those municipalities, or if He had any written document stating that prohibition. (...) But that was impossible at the time, that there could be a document with a summons from any paramilitary leader, because it was clear that we couldn't go where they didn't want us to go. And he told me that since I had no proof, he thought it best that I not file that complaint and that I should try to campaign in the rest of the department.
