Female Municipal Co-Mayors Visit Dicle District Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak met with women in the Dedeköy neighborhood of Dicle district, stating that they are combating all forms of violence against women and their belief in resolving all social problems through democratic means. The Dicle Municipality Women's Policies Department organized a women's gathering as part of the annual "We Are Not Done, We Will Stop Violence Together" campaign, organized by provincial and district municipalities to mark November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The meeting was attended by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, along with Dicle Municipality Co-Mayor Aysel Baran, Yenişehir Municipality Co-Mayor Safiye Akdağ, Kayapınar Municipality Co-Mayor Berivan Gülşen Sincar, Çınar Municipality Co-Mayor Semra Akyüz, Kulp Municipality Co-Mayor Fatma Ay, Lice Municipality Co-Mayor Dilek Diyar Özer, Silvan Municipality Co-Mayor Sevim Biçici, Bismil Municipality Co-Mayor Mizgin Ekin, Sur Municipality Co-Mayor Fatma Gulan Önkol, Bağlar Municipality Co-Mayor Leyla Ayaz, Ergani Municipality Co-Mayor Birsen Azak Bayar, and Kocaköy Municipality Co-Mayor Roza Altındağ. Co-Mayor Bucak: We cannot ignore violence against women The co-mayors toured the structure built by the Dicle Municipality for the women's living center and visited shopkeepers in the Çelebi neighborhood of the Dicle district before the women's meeting. During her visit to tradespeople, Co-Mayor Bucak listened to citizens' demands and suggestions, explained the Metropolitan Municipality's women's initiatives, and distributed brochures containing information on what to do against violence against women. Emphasizing the importance of women's struggle, Co-Mayor Bucak said, "You can always contact us for any problem you're experiencing. As female co-mayors, we cannot ignore women's violence." Co-Mayor Bucak added that they fight against all forms of violence against women and the belief that they can solve all social problems on a democratic basis. Women's meeting in Dedeköy Co-Mayor Bucak and her entourage later attended a women's meeting held in the Dedeköy neighborhood. At the meeting, the women voiced their demands and suggestions. "We will succeed together" Speaking at the meeting, Co-Mayor Serra Bucak greeted the women and said, "We are very happy to be together today. Thank you for your hospitality." Recalling the eight-year trusteeship process in municipalities, Co-Mayor Bucak said, “That's why our problems have piled up; there are so many. Problems have piled up in districts, centers, and villages. But we can solve these problems together, step by step. We have the power; women and young people have the power. We will succeed together. But most importantly, today we want to discuss violence against women at length.”
