¿Porque crece la ultraderecha en América Latina? Atilio Borón
Argentine political scientist, sociologist, and communicator Atilio Borón emphasized the need for Latin American peoples to place the anti-imperialist and anti-neoliberal struggle at the heart of their political strategy to confront the advance of Trumpism and the far right in the region. During his remarks, he argued that the "subservience of far-right Latin American governments" stems from business and power interests, rather than from the principles of freedom and democracy they proclaim. Borón also asserted that, through the use of "lawfare"—the manipulation of the judicial system for political ends—destabilization processes were promoted against progressive and left-wing governments. In his view, these governments also failed to make the necessary progress in the structural transformations required to dismantle the existing mechanisms of domination in their countries. Atilio Borón's presentation took place within the framework of the International Symposium "Latin America Resists", during the debate panel "Why is the far right growing in America?", moderated by Marcos Pflücker Núñez, director of "Peruanicemos al Perú", the institution organizing the event.
