Man Stabbed To Death In Mumbai Local Train After Argument Over Closing Door | ISH News
A shocking incident on Mumbai's Western Railway line has raised fresh concerns about passenger safety after a 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death inside a local train on the night of 23 June 2026. The incident went viral after a video showed a man holding a knife inside a train compartment while another passenger lay bleeding on the floor. Many initially believed the video was fake, but it was later confirmed to be real. The victim, Mayank Lohar, lived in Virar with his family and worked at a retail clothing showroom in JB Nagar, Andheri East. On the night of the incident, he boarded a first-class compartment of a fast local train after finishing work. Heavy rainfall had affected Mumbai throughout the day. During the journey, an argument broke out among passengers over whether the train doors should remain open or closed, as rainwater was entering the compartment. According to reports, the argument escalated and some passengers allegedly assaulted 30-year-old Sachin Suvarna, who worked at the Sahar Cargo complex near Mumbai airport. Enraged by the incident, Suvarna allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Mayank multiple times in the chest and abdomen. Although many passengers were present, no one intervened as the accused was armed and behaving aggressively. A video recorded by passengers showed Suvarna, dressed in black, walking away while Mayank lay seriously injured. Suvarna later jumped out of the train at Borivali station and fled. Railway officials, along with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), rushed to the compartment after the train reached Borivali. Mayank was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The GRP formed seven teams and examined footage from nearly 400 CCTV cameras across several railway stations. Using technical intelligence and CCTV footage, police identified the accused. According to reports, Suvarna returned home after the incident and later left fearing arrest. He was arrested within 24 hours after a massive manhunt. However, the weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered. Mayank's family has demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. His mother described him as a caring person who never got into fights, while his sister called for justice and demanded the death penalty. This is the second fatal stabbing reported on Mumbai's Western Railway network this year. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about passenger safety on Mumbai's lifeline—the local train network. Police interrogation is currently underway, and further investigation continues. #Mumbai #MumbaiLocalTrain #MayankLohar #RoshanSuvarna #CrimeNews #ViralVideo #MumbaiNews #BreakingNews #IndiaSigningHands #ISH #ISHNews #ISL #IndianSignLanguage #SignLanguage ISH News broadcasts the Daily News and Entertainment online in Deaf-friendly accessible formats which are in Indian Sign Language (ISL), visual images with titles, voice-over and closed-captions.
