COMO ZÉ DO RANCHO MORREU?

How did Zé do Rancho die? Zé do Rancho was one of the greatest icons of traditional sertanejo music in Brazil. Throughout his career, he recorded hits such as "Três Companheiros" and "Rincão Mato-Grossense," which became classics of traditional sertanejo music. João Isidoro Pereira, better known as Zé do Rancho, was born on June 4, 1927, in the city of Guapiaçu, in the interior of São Paulo. His childhood was marked by economic hardship, which was reflected in the way he spent this period of his life. As a boy, around the age of 8, he was already working as a shoeshine boy and working as a porter at the street market in São José do Rio Preto, a neighboring city of Guapiaçu. These activities not only helped support his family but also exposed him to everyday life, which would influence his future artistic career. Even with his demanding schedule, João found time to dedicate himself to music. As a child, he began playing the cavaquinho at popular dances, demonstrating his talent and musical sensitivity. In 1944, at the age of 17, João began his artistic career and became the mother of the famous duo Sandy and Junior. In 1950, Zé do Rancho joined the Nelson de Tupã Orchestra, where he remained for four years, playing electric guitar—a daring feat for a young man. The program aired on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, always at 6:30 pm, and became known as the home of "Brazil's Most Beloved Trio." This program was a true hit with listeners at the time. With a repertoire focused on traditional sertanejo music, the trio performed viola songs, songs, and comedy skits, drawing on Zé do Rancho's experience as an actor in circus companies. While Zé do Rancho was working on the radio, he maintained a country music duo with his brother Zé do Pinho, formed around the same time he started at Rádio Tupi. Together, they recorded two 78 RPM records, notably the songs "Três Companheiros" and "Rincão Mato-Grossense." In 1962, with Serrinha's retirement, Zé do Rancho's wife, Mariazinha, joined the trio, maintaining the format until 1965, when the group disbanded. From then on, Zé do Rancho and Mariazinha formed a duo and continued performing on Rádio Nacional. At this point in his life, Zé do Rancho's career included the classic "A Resposta da Mariquinha," released in 1969 by RCA Victor. In 1974, he formed a new duo with singer Vilmar, who adopted the stage name Zé do Pinho, in honor of Zé do Rancho's deceased brother. This new formation of the duo Zé do Rancho and Zé do Pinho released six albums on the RCA label. Highlights from this period include the songs "No Colo da Noite," "Devolva a Passagem," "Meu Sítio, Meu Paraíso," and "Bom Jesus de Pirapora." The duo gained airplay on radio and stage, keeping the tradition of country music alive. In 1980, after the release of their sixth album, the duo disbanded, and Zé do Pinho decided to abandon his artistic career to become a singer. During this time, Zé do Rancho witnessed the beginning of the careers of his grandchildren Sandy and Junior. Their bond was so strong that Sandy and Junior re-recorded the song "A Resposta da Mariquinha," composed by Zé do Rancho and originally recorded with his wife Mariazinha. in his home studio, where he also hosted family and friends for informal musical gatherings. His health, however, required attention. Zé do Rancho lived with Chagas disease for about 40 years, a chronic condition that doctors said could have shortened his life. But he... Zé do Rancho remained hospitalized for a few days before passing away. Zé do Rancho died on February 15, 2015, from heart failure. He was 87 years old. Zé do Rancho's wake was held at Jardim da Paz Cemetery in São José do Rio Preto, the city where he lived and passed away. The ceremony was marked by an atmosphere of intimacy and respect, in keeping with the artist's own wishes, as he always valued simplicity and family ties. Close family members were present, including his wife Mariazinha, his children and grandchildren, including Sandy and Junior, and friends who had been with him throughout his life. He was buried in this same cemetery. Zé do Rancho's legacy lives on in the history of Brazilian sertanejo music. With over 200 compositions, memorable collaborations, and work as a music producer and radio host, Zé do Rancho was one of the greatest names in traditional music. And that's how Zé do Rancho died!
