The first weekend back at his "new" old workplace is a real challenge for Ingo Kahlsdorf. He's a lock keeper at the Hadeln Canal lock in Otterndorf. Since 1870, generations of his family have looked after skippers and captains here on the Elbe River. Things have been particularly exciting lately. The canal lock was rebuilt over a period of almost five years, a process accompanied by a serious accident. Now it's finished. The new construction not only restores the connection between the Weser and Elbe rivers, but it's also one of Lower Saxony's most important coastal protection projects. "The North Report" accompanies the lock keeper's family on the first busy summer weekend of the year and shows the last six months of construction work at the Hadeln Canal lock.
