Seylynn Bowl 2025 Highlights (Full Version)
Welcome everyone to the 29th Annual BOWL SERIES 2025. This monumental skateboard competition and Jam is the biggest and longest running skateboard event of the great Northwest. Each year on July 1st the Bowl Series kicks off and seems to be a surviving event which keeps getting better and better with more new riders joining the mix and ripping it up with the seasoned pros and local riders. Seylynn is the oldest skate park in Canada and the first outdoor concrete park in Canada. It was crafted out of incredibly durable 5,000 PSI concrete, which is a major reason it survives intact today. During the early 1980s, the initial global skateboarding craze crashed, causing municipalities across North America to bulldoze or fill in their skateparks. Seylynn survived this era, but barely outlasted a major environmental disaster in 1981 when the adjacent Lynn River blew its banks. The flood severely eroded the riverbank, nearly sliding the entire concrete structure into the water. In later decades, local advocates successfully campaigned and petitioned to protect the park from being paved over for highway expansion or condo developments. Seylynn has hosted world-renowned professional skaters across generations, including a historic 1986 Expo contest session with David Hackett and visits from icons like Christian Hosoi in 1987. The local subculture was further solidified by the nearby legendary "P.D.'s Hot Shop" (distributors of Skull Skates). The park's rich history is documented in George Faulkner's 2012 film, The Seylynn Story. Today, it remains an inclusive, active space that hosts the annual Seylynn Bowl Series contest. The Snake Run: It features a steep, downhill concrete "snake run" that pumps riders through banks without requiring them to push. The Bowl: The run terminates into an open bowl area where skaters can loop momentum back uphill or launch off the "Showtime Booter". No Coping: True to its 1970s roots, the entire park features no metal coping or ledges to grind, focusing entirely on carving, speed, and flow. Thanks everyone who participates and shows up to watch the Bowl Series and to Jeff and Dennis for hosting this years everlasting event. And to all the Sponsors, Donators and Volunteers and most of all to all the Spectators who show up each year and offer their support - none of this would be possible without the effort of our great communities we live in here in the Great Northwest of British Columbia, Canada.
