A history of Native Americans in New England | Still Here

For generations, stories of Native America have been kept separate and apart from the American story. For more than 10,000 years before Europeans arrived, the Northeast was home to many tribes with organized leadership and governance; it was among the most prosperous parts of North America. As colonial powers took over Native land, white settlers were enslaving Native people. This video is part of "Still Here: Native American Resilience in New England," a Connecticut Public series highlighting Indigenous voices across the region. It takes a fresh look at the history of our region, including the hidden history of Indigenous slavery, “paper genocide” and efforts to keep traditions alive. 🎬See more Indigenous stories at our Still Here playlist on YouTube:    • Still Here: Native American Resilience in ...   👀Find more visuals and reporting for this series at https://www.ctpublic.org/stillhere. 📌 Connecticut Public is the state’s public media source for in-depth local news, original storytelling and ideas that educate and inspire our communities. 👉 Subscribe to Connecticut Public’s YouTube channel:    / @connecticutpublic   Subscribe to our Connecticut Public newsletters: https://www.ctpublic.org/newsletters Follow Connecticut Public on Instagram:   / ctpublic   Like Connecticut Public on Facebook:   / ctpublic   Follow Connecticut Public on TikTok:   / ctpublic   📍 Visit our website: https://www.ctpublic.org Support public media and fund the future of free information by donating to Connecticut Public today: ctpublic.org/donate
