RC PC9 Roulette Gains A Wingman: Flight Twenty

Powered by a 25 E Flite brushless motor and a 65A DualSky ESC, this aircraft runs on a 5000mAh 14.8V 4S LiPo, delivering plenty of power for confident aerobatic performance. Flight Review: The previous flight ended with the second Roulette crashing off camera and requiring extensive repairs before it could fly again. The damage was significant, but the aluminium motor mount proved its worth by absorbing the impact and acting as a crumple zone, protecting the fuselage from what could have been a much more serious failure. With the repairs complete, we headed back to try again. I positioned myself behind the lead aircraft and gradually closed the gap before Scott eased forward, giving me room to settle into formation on the tail. Keeping both aircraft framed throughout the takeoff was challenging, especially after the previous incident, but everything came together smoothly. Once airborne, I performed several aileron rolls and a barrel roll while maintaining formation like the famouse Roulettes. Flying this close requires constant concentration, and I made a conscious effort to keep my focus on my own aircraft rather than becoming distracted by the other model. The landing was just as satisfying. I maintained formation all the way through the approach, touched down behind the lead aircraft, and rolled to a stop just short of it. After the extensive repairs, it was rewarding to see the Roulette return to the air with a successful formation flight from takeoff to landing.
